Labor theory and John Locke


a.       Locke held the view that “every man has an (exclusive) property in his own person”.
b.      The work/labor of his “person” (hands) are his—whenever he mixes his labor with something
c.       Manure Scenario: “if a party finds property comparatively worthless…and greatly increases its value by his labor and expense, does he lose his right if he leaves it a reasonable time to procure the means to take it away, when such means are necessary for its removal?” Answer: No
d.      Locke subscribes to the view that the Indians, were there, but they weren’t there in the sense of doing the productive things that we associated to ownership (labor)
